Last week the ground was covered with snow, and there is rain and snow forecast for next weekend. But Sunday turned out a very beautiful, sunny day with temps in the 40′s. After church found Janis and I basking in the sun on the front step. There on the south side of the house I’m sure the micro-climate reached around 75. Had we stayed very long, I’m sure we both would have fallen asleep. But sunny days in February are meant to be enjoyed and it wasn’t long before we were thinking of someplace we could be out walking.
Twenty minutes later found us on the rim of the Snake River Canyon for a brisk stroll along the Canyon Rim Trail. The city of Twin Falls maintains more than 10 miles of trail throughout the city and along the canyon rim. I thought I’d share it with you.
This is the 1500′ long Perrine Bridge spanning the canyon at 486′ above the river. Quite an experience to walk out on.
In this picture you can see Pillar Falls. Just below the falls on the left is a kayaker enjoying the day as well. On the south(right) rim you can see a few very large homes which give you some idea of the immensity of this canyon. You can also see the ramp where the famous Evil Kinevil failed his attempt to jump the canyon in a rocket powered sky cycle in 1974. The lichen covered rock in the foreground is very beautiful!
This picture is looking west, downstream from the trail near the Perrine Bridge. A few weeks ago Janis and I took a hike in the snow covered canyon floor in this area. This canyon is awesome and we too often take it for granted.
Just a glimpse into our part of the world!

I bet you guys really enjoyed the sun. We have had 33 snow days and many more cloudy days since last fall. The sun has been a rare friend this winter. Rumor has it (the latest weather report) though that following yet another artic blast we might hit 50 degrees next week. Break out the sun tan lotion! It’s hard to imagine that metrological spring begins in little over 2 weeks. Glad to see you guys enjoy yourselves.
